After Veiwing

What affects do you think are achieved by having Oliver speak directly to the audience through voiceover?

The narrative being the main character is quite useful as it shows us exactly what the character is feeling and their thoughts and take us throughout the film through their perspective rather than the director's and makes it feel less like a film and more like a captured diary.

Do you think there is a gap between what oliver says about himself and the reality that we see one the screen? if so what effects does this create?

Oliver thinks of himself better than what he actually appears and mentions some if it in the narative while on screen he is of something different and that creates some humour.

Do you feel that the film is quite literary- does it feel like it is an adaptation of a book? in what ways?

No, the film doesnt feel like it's been adapted from a book, it feels like te story has been made and fit for the screen.
the narrative sound like it has been adapted from a book.

To what extent did you feel the film's comedy from a tension between what he says he understands (through his voiceover) and what he actually understands?

his voiceover helps explain what he really understand and is the explaination for his actions in some cases

Before viewing Submarine

What sort of feeling can music video have and what efect could a music-style sequence achieve in a film?

a music video shows what kind message the artist/s would like the audience to get out of their music and to make sure that audience did not mis-interperate the song .
a music style sequence in a film could achieve the feel of the movie as some sort of reality show, -
real life with a soundtrack.

Can you think of ther films which feature extended montage sequences that are quite like music videos?

Portfolio of supporting materials- the things im doing.

REPRESENTATIONS:

Our film is a biographical thriller, following a certain part of Lilly's life, our protagonist.

LILLY-
She’s a young girl- aged 15-16 still in school
Stereotypes- she’s an outsider-
But not by much as she still has a friends who questions her well-being and cares for her to an extent.

LILLYS FRIEND; (name still undecided)
Same age as Lilly- only meet in school, doesn’t talk to her but after the regular session of other people bullying Lilly she turns back and asks if she’s okay.

THE OLD LADY/WITCH.
She represents the evil and the thriller part of the film. With her spell chanting and crazy dancing and her being part of Lilly’s dreams.
For biographical thriller we thought it would be best to include some unnatural reason for Lilly’s final breakdown and for it to include some magic and also her mental well-being tied together for it to be a thriller.

THE CARETAKER:
The caretaker in some detective/mystery items is one the biggest stereotypes there is as the caretakers are known to be the “bad guy”/ the one who had behind all the time.
We take that into perspective and make it seem the caretaker is behind it all while he really is under the old lady’s/witch’s spell.
With this advantage we turn the caretaker almost into a stalker who goes to the extreme to break out of the witch’s spell but also threatens Lilly to stop using the pencil case with death threats.
We chose to do this to make it into a twisted thriller so to make the audience after viewing about the character’s true form.

FILMING

Scene from  “ angus Thongs and perfect snogging” trailer,
The main protagonist on the left centre and one of the other main characters next to her.
Medium- longshot- so to see the background and are.
Can see other school students in the same uniform- suggests they’re at the school gates walking into school. Shot in high key- shows it to be a sunny day- natural looking, probably no need for too many extra lighting.

Pitch:

Lily finds an old pencil case, some sort of code written on it, discovers secrets about it and she becomes hell-bent over in finding out its true meaning. A biographical thriller.

Synopsis:

Lilly is a girl who lives with her mum and comes from a poor background. She doesn't fit in school- no money, not many friends but has a close friend who takes an interest in her well being and cares for her. One day in class the teacher hands her some keys and asks her to get a book from the cupboard/room as there's none left for her. Lilly goes there and finds the book she need - pulls it out and out from behind falls a pencil case with ink written all over it. Some sort of code which she couldn't understand. Intrigued by it she took it home and investigated it. She read it. Fell asleep while looking at it. Next morning she decides she need to take a pen from it. Finds a couple hundred pounds in it. First time she has some actual proper money she ended up splashing it in school. After that first use she never recieved anymore money, she regretted her money spending frenzy and wished she had spent some money on her mum who struggles getting food on the table.

More money arrives in the pencil case. But it hurts her hand as she tries to reach inside for it. A sort of burning feeling.
she spends the money on her mum helping her with the bills.
Each time she gets money each time it's burns her hand but more each time. after a while it's burns her to the extent it's almost like an electric shock which leads her unconscious, she then has really vivid dreams- weird things happening , her running round, old lady laughing, her mum drowning, her hand burning all the way through. she wakes up in hospital, scared and knowing the pencil case has something to do with it as she wakes up with some of the similar writing as the pencil case- it's permanent on her hand and she can't wash it off. She tries to decipher it and goes mad trying to. Tries to find out the original owner of the pencil case by looking in school records and that cupboard after school. The caretaker catches her and finds out what she's up to and keeps an eye on her and she realizes that too and goes back to deciphering the code... She then has more vivid dreams of her hand burning...more and more writing appears on get hand and the old woman who has the same writing but all over her face keeps appearing in her dream, laughing- (scary)
She continues to go to school, not of her own will but because her mum forces her too instead of having her stay at home staring at the wall where she has posted drawings and codes and numbers to decipher the code.
At school she receives death notes from an unknown source threatening her to stop using the pencil case and to stop deciphering it.
Lilly ingnores these but instead posts them onto her wall. While the obsession over the code she starts to neglect her school work her mum and her only friend. She still get the money but no longer cares for it. She does give it to her mum but she becomes more and less like a human and becomes more obsessed with it.... Lilly forgets the difference between reality and dreams, what is reality and not real and has a boy she is in love with called Aaron and almost kills herself when she sees him dead, her friend stops her.
She dreams of the location to meet the old woman and goes there to meet her. The caretaker follows her. There the woman is burning her hand. Lilly has the urge to join. She drops the pencil case on the floor and she then is in some sort of trance- spins around and walks towards the fire the woman has lit on the floor she sticks her hand in it and after all the dreams she's had about it she enjoys it and decides to sit in it and burns herself and dies. the old woman stops the fire and collects the ashes of Lilly and pours into the pencil case and recite something and laughs again. Passes it to the caretaker who then walks away with it- (walks into the camera while it fades to black)

Review

On my first try on the questioniare I found out that peoples reaction towards the breakfast club trailer was quite positive more than half would consider watching it in the cinema and more than half agreed that the music had suited the trailer and the scenes.

the people who had completed the questionnaire where mostly of the same categories, 15-18s and most girls. This could have affected it as it would be a movie targeted at their age group. I could have gotten more of a variety if different ages to do the questionnaire and to get a more wider response.

Also to improve I could have included more questions about the trailer about the genre, and who they think it appeals to and also what they think
Makes a good movie trailer, their
Likes and dislikes .

I'm gonna cry if this doesn't upload it's like the third time in this stupid iPod.
