A brief Synopsis:

Lilly is a girl who lives with her mum and comes from a poor background. She doesn't fit in school. She doesn’t have many friends but one close friend who takes an interest in her well being and cares for her. One day in class the teacher hands her some keys and asks her to get a book from the cupboard/room as there's none left for her. Lilly goes there and finds the book she need - pulls it out and out from behind falls a pencil case with ink written all over it. Some sort of code which she couldn't understand. Intrigued by it she takes it home and investigates it. She reads it and fell asleep while reading it.
this leads to her having dreams about it and then obsessing over the pencil-case and finding out what the writing means.

She discovers that to find out more about the pencil-case she has to open it but this leads to her having fits and trances. But her need to want to find out more leads to her opening the pencil-case more often and then eventually enjoying the pain that comes once the pencil case opens.
She then has really vivid dreams- weird things happening, she sees herself running round, an old lady with writing on her face laughing, ad a group of hooded figures.

She ignores all this and still continues to decipher the pencil case, and while doing this she starts to ignore her friends and family who start to worry for her.
Lilly ignoring all her friends and families concerns she then hunts for the place she’s been dreaming about where the hooded figures are in her dreams and the she finds the old witch lady who takes her hand and Lilly, who’s in a trance, follows her every command which then results in burning herself and the old witch lady then picks up Lilly’s ashes and pours them into the pencil-case.
